Bissell Symphony Bagless Vacuum and Steam Mop

I have an obsession with vacuums.  It’s weird and I don’t want too delve to far into it, but just know that I am REALLY into vacuums.  I have a Shark Bagless Upright that I really liked, until, my husband used it once and broke it.  So long story short, I needed a new vacuum.  I also happened to have a 30% off coupon at Kohl’s, so I knew I wanted to make my purchase there.  They don’t actually have much in the store to choose from, but I was all revved up to buy a vacuum, so when the Bissell Symphony Bagless Vacuum and Steam Mop caught my eye, I snagged it and brought it home.  Here she is:

It’s not too big or heavy and it was very easy to put together.  It comes with some key accessories, too:

That’s the mop pad (note how bright white it is.  You will see it again later looking a little different), the water cup filler and that little white disc in the foreground is a little Febreze scented deodorizing disc that goes inside the mop pad. Such a clever idea!

In the interest of science, and good before and after photos, I went a few days last week without sweeping, mopping or vacuuming.  How else could I show you how well the Bissell Symphony worked?  I had to have something to clean, right?

Before and After Fridge Side

You can’t tell from this how much dirt actually came off the floor, but you can tell how much debris the vacuum picked up.  That’s a decent sized piece of Triscuit under the fridge and it did pick that up, although it got a little cloggy after that, so I would just pick that up with my fingers next time.  But the rest of the loose bits of dirt and cat food got sucked right up!  I was very surprised at the power of the vacuum.  I wasn’t expecting much, but it did a great job.

Here’s a close up of some of the dirt that I came up:

There were lots of those little sticky dark spots all over the floor, but the Bissell steamed them all away.  Oh, what, not enough dirt for you?  How about this?

I don’t even know what that is.  All I know is that I am glad I didn’t have to touch it and that it is now not just gone, but disinfected by the steam.  Want to see more?

That is a melted piece of a popsicle.  Yes, I let it sit there for a few days.  It was for SCIENCE, people!  You can see that the Bissell didn’t get ALL of it, but it was pretty close.  I went back with a wet paper towel and got the rest.  I think the problem was the tight corners in this spot.

Still not nasty enough  for you?  Check this out:

Dirt

You’re welcome.  That’s what this thing picked up off of my floor. I  swear that is not more than, like, 4 days of dirt.  Science, right?

In all, I’m really loving the Bissell Symphony Bagless Vacuum and Steamer.  Here are the Pros:

1.  Double duty – You are literally vacuuming and steam cleaning at the SAME time.  It seems to defy the laws of physics, but it works.  Really.

2.  Steam Disinfects – The floors are clean, but they have also been blasted with steam which means they are also disinfected.  That makes me happy.

3.  Febreze-y Freshness – The little Febreze discs really do give off a lovely clean scent.

4.  Hands Off – There’s very little interaction with the dirt.  The dirt container is a easy to empty and the mop cover has a little tab that you pull to avoid the nastiness.

5.  Not a lot to re-buy – The mop pads (it comes with two, one with scrubby things) are machine washable and the vacuum is bagless, so nothing to buy over and over again.  It even comes with an extra filter.  I love the little Febreze discs, so eventually I will buy some more of those, but it comes with a good bunch of them.

Cons:

1.  It Doesn’t Corner Well – This guy has a tough time getting dirt and particles out of the corners around the cabinet bases.  I can live with that.

2.  Black marks – You might notice on some of the after pics black smudges on the bottoms of the cabinets.  This part is kind of annoying.  They come off easy enough with a wet paper towel, but still.  I might try to wrap something around the black rubber thingy next time.  Or just not smash into the cabinets so hard.
