#Write31days – Organizing the Linen Closet

The second task of An Organized Home in 30 Days is to organize your Linen Closet.  I’m going to be honest with you.  It was boring.  There are no good pictures.  The linen closet is tiny.  Really, nothing very exciting.  But don’t stop reading!  I left you with a cliffhanger yesterday about putting my Coach purse in the washing machine.  And I have an update for you. You just have to look at boring linen closet pictures first.

Here’s the before:

Linen Closet Before

Totally a jumbled mess and one shelf that was off the rails.  It REALLY needed some organizing.

Here are the contents of the closet:

Ooh, sorry, that pic is totally blurry.  Here is a list of what was in the closet:

  • 749 top sheets – We don’t use top sheets in our house.  Martha Stewart told me I don’t have to, so I don’t.
  • 450,000 curtains – I’m barely exaggerating.
  • All of my mothers Christmas tablecloths
  • 1 disgusting bug that I was forced to kill
  • 3 pillow forms that I’m actually pretty excited about

And here is the after:

Still totally boring, but now organized and boring.

Ok, on to the exciting.  Yesterday, as the first step in my 30 days to an organized home challenge, I cleaned out my purse.  I also wanted to switch to a fall/winter purse and I really wanted to try to salvage my Coach bag that had seen much better days.  I googled how to clean it (after I was sure I had ruined it), and found out at least two crazy people have put their LEATHER purses in the washing machine.  I want to be 100% clear here.  I’m not telling you to try this.  I’m not calling this a tutorial.  I’m not even going to tell you how I did it (I will tell you I didn’t use regular detergent).  Google it for yourself and see what is recommended and then decide for yourself if you are willing to take a leap of faith with your probably very expensive purse.  I was at the point with mine that I probably would never use it in public again because it looked so bad, so I figured throwing it in the wash was either going to work, or it would be a disaster and I would be able to part ways with the bag for good.

IT WORKED!

It’s not perfect, but it is SO much better.  I might put it through one more time and see if gets even better.  I couldn’t be happier to be able to use this bag again.  It was a gift from my husband and it was a pretty big splurge, so it means a lot that I’ll be carrying around this fall and hopefully for many falls to come!
