Buy It Spy It DIY It – Anthropologie – 2nd Edition

I’m very excited to bring back Buy It Spy It DIY It this week.  I was going to choose a new store that I haven’t picked through yet, but then I got sucked into Anthropologie.com and well, here we are.  So, as a refresher, here’s how we play the game.  A “Buy It” is something you should splurge on now OR save your pennies for.  A “Spy It” is something you can probably find a similar enough copy of somewhere else for a more reasonable price.  And a “DIY It” is something you can probably make with your own two minimally crafty hands.  (Ok, those are my two minimally crafty hands.  A truly crafty pair of hands could probably replicate the entire Anthro home section).

Handknit Tuffet - anthropologie.com

Buy It – I know what you and your crafty hands are thinking.  But these guys are $99!  They are the most special little things I have seen in a long time.  I want them ALL!

Speckled Rope Basket - anthropologie.comDIY It – I’ve seen tons of tutorials for rope baskets all over Pinterest.  I like these, but I don’t love them.  They are expensive ($52 and up) and I’m not a huge fan of the pale/pastel colors.  If I diy-ed this, it would be way cheaper and I could customize the colors.

Buy It – Ok, this $98, but I had  an intense reaction to it.  You know those commercials for Kohler where the lady brings the faucet to the fancy architect and says, “Build me a house around this”?  This pitcher is that for me.  I’d like to chuck every other thing I own and start fresh with this as a starting point.  Now does it seem worth $98?

Minimalist Gallery Frame - anthropologie.com

Spy It – I have an obsession with gold frames lately and if you’re lucky you will find these at the thrift stores.  I bought a GORGEOUS print (or maybe original Japanese painting on silk from a few hundred years ago that could be priceless.   I haven’t figured that out yet) at ReStore for $5!

Handwoven Arrow Tapestry, Small - anthropologie.comDIY It – I forgot I’ve been meaning to attempt a wall hanging.  These are gorgeous and $450, but there are lots of great tutorials out there for these.  You could make one with your favorite colors and textures and have a one of a kind AND the satisfaction of saying “I made it” when someone asks were you got it.

Byzantine Knob - anthropologie.com

DIY It – These knobs are awesome.  But, seriously, can’t you do this with a sharpie?  Actually, I kind of want to find a way to copy these but as earrings.

Painted Amaryllis Butter Dish - anthropologie.comBuy It – This little butter dish is so adorable and $16 is a fair price for all of that cute.
Tri-Color Stripe Canvas Hamper - anthropologie.com

DIY It – If you have $98 to buy these hampers, you should find something better to spend $98 on.  If you love them so much, then pull out some paints and tape and make them.  Right?  Right?

Embroidered Cockatoo Lamp Shade - anthropologie.com

Buy It – Ok, if I ever have a spare $148 dollars lying around, I am buying this lampshade.  This would be the second thing I would buy after I throw everything away and buy the pitcher that’s above.

The End!  One of these days I promise I will actually attempt one of the DIY Its.
