Retro Recipe – Honey Almond Apple Puffs

Second installment of retro recipes!  Here’s the first one, Glazed Chicken Wings.  And, in case you missed it, my retro recipe endeavor is inspired by the 40th Anniversary Betty Crocker’s Cook Book.  This week I made Honey Almond Apple Puffs and I can tell you with certainty that they are delicious. You know what makes me so certain? I just ate three of them.  Just to be sure.

Honey Almond Apple Puffs

In addition to being really delicious, they are very easy to make.

Honey Almond Apple Puffs

1/2 package of frozen puff pastry, thawed

1 large cooking apple, peeled and pared into 6 wedges

Ground nutmeg (I used cinnamon)

1/4 c honey

1/4 c sliced almonds

1.  Heat oven to 425.

2.  Unfold pastry and cut into 9 squares

3.  Cut apple wedges crosswise in half (only 9 apple pieces are needed).

4.  Place 1 apple piece on each pastry square and sprinkle with nutmeg.

5.  Moisten corners of pastry with water.

6.  Gather corners over apple and pinch to seal well.

7.  Place on ungreased cookie sheet.

8.  Bake 15-20 minutes or until deep golden brown and puffed.

9.  Heat honey until thin and brush over warm puffs.

10.  Sprinkle with almonds.  Serve warm.

So simple, but they don’t taste like it!  This is one of those things that people are going to think you slaved over, but you didn’t.  I’ll leave it up to you whether or not to dispel the myth!
