I dont really like farmhouse style, ok? Let’s get that out of the way first. I mean, I’m a bright color person, aren’t I?? I have this wallpaper in my dining room.
Does that say farmhouse in any way to you?
But, here’s the thing. I keep finding myself drawn to pictures of rooms or decor pieces that are decidedly farmhouse decor ideas. Remember my wreath round up the other day? There were a bunch of farmhouse options and I can’t lie, I liked them.
So can’t there be a farmhouse option for the modern girl? Isn’t there a fusion of the two? I mean, modern farmhouse is a thing. Joanna Gaines achieves it by painting things black. And if Joanna can do it, then it can’t be wrong, right?
There most definitely is a thing called Modern Farmhouse. I’ve found examples of it for every room in my house and I’ve found products to achieve it in every room in my house. ***This post contains affiliate links. Let’s have a look, shall we?
Modern Farmhouse Decor for Your Whole House
Let’s start in the kitchen? The kitchen is perfect for a mix of modern and farmhouse. Why? because it should be a room with sort of minimal design and just a touch of color. You want your kitchen to be clean and organized with just a touch of color and personality. Farmhouse will help you achieve that. Here are some examples.
This pretty and simple white pitcher from Target is perfect. The solid white keeps it a little modern, but a pitcher is definitely farmhouse. I love that you can use this a pitcher or a vase or even next to the stove to hold your utensils.
Kitchen Tea Towels from Target
Tea towels are perfect for a touch of modern farmhouse style. That yellow is such a great pop of color. And I love the sweet embroidery on that one, too. And who doesn’t love a good pinstripe?
Antique Toast Server from Target
Um, I didn’t know that an antique toast server was a thing, but I officially need this in my life right now. Like, put it in my cart now and get me credit card. PS, though, I’m not using this for toast. This obviously a desk organizer.
How about the Dining Room? Can we get some Modern Farmhouse touches in the Dining Room? Even with my crazy wallpaper? I say yes. I think I can do it. What about with the centerpiece? Or maybe the lighting or even place settings? Here are some great examples.
I have a dining room set. It’s actually very traditional and I’m kind of over it. This is to me a perfect melding of farmhouse and modern. Clean lines and warm wood. My only hesitation with this is the fabric on those chairs. I see a lifetime of scrubbing beige fabric when I look at those chairs.
Glass Fluted Tumbler – from Target
These are lovely glasses, aren’t they? The knobs say farmhouse and the shape says modern. Perfect. I’d love those for the Thanksgiving table.
Two Tier Wood & Metal Cake Stand from Target
If someone made me define Modern Farmhouse without using words, I would show them a picture of this cake stand. It’s the perfect balance of both.
I have to admit, I don’t really think about decor for the bathroom very much. I mean. Neither one of my bathrooms are my favorite places to be. Perhaps that’s because I haven’t added some Modern Farmhouse flair to them? Maybe they need a bit of cozying up. Here are some great touches I could add. Maybe I’ll make some time to make a bath after sprucing the place up, yes?
If you take something that is farmhouse style and make it white with a little black, it’s instantly also Modern. This is a lovely trash bucket for the bathroom.
So Fresh So Clean Decor from Amazon
Totally farmhouse aesthetic with a decidedly Modern sentiment. These are adorable, I think. These would be cute in the laundry room, too. If I had a laundry room. And also if my laundry was fresh and clean.
Rustic Round Galvanized Metal Mirror from Amazon
I had a wreath in my round up that actually reminded me of this mirror. I do love the look of galvanzied metal.
Let’s not forget about the Family Room! I’d love some great pillows with a touch of modern and a splash of farmhouse. What’s better than that? OR! How about one of those great granny square quilts? That’s colorful and farmhouse. It’s the perfect melding of the two styles. Here are some perfect examples.
Buffalo check? I’m in. And most definitely in black and white.
Wood Nesting House from Target
I love these. I love the straight lines and I love the wood and I love the rustic. I want them on my mantel even though they don’t go with anything else I own. I just like them very much and that is all.
Cashmere-like Throw from Target
I love the rich and warm colors in this throw. The keep this modern, but the plaid keeps it right in the farmhouse wheel house.
And let’s not neglect the bedrooms, shall we? I did a quick refresh in my bedroom a few (oh my god, is it really years?) years ago and to me there is something modern farmhouse bedroom about it. Navy is a classic color and then the slightly off white bedspread that goes to the floor is definitely a little farmhouse.
Throw a chunky knit throw on there and I can practically here the cows mooing in the distance. A book page wreath is Modern Farmhouse, no?
Harvester Headboard from Target
This headboard might be swinging a little too far into farmhouse and a little too far from modern for me, but I still kind of like it.
Organic Cotton Printed Sheets from Target
Sheets can be a great way to add some personality and color in your bedroom. To me these have a touch of farmhouse to them, but the navy and white still seems modern.
So, how’d I do? Did I pull together Modern and Farmhouse? I think I might start with those sheets, actually. Or something close to it.
