Retro Recipe – Glazed Chicken Wings

So I was walking through Savers the other day and I came across this gem:

Betty Crocker's 40th Anniversary Cook Book

40th Anniversary edition of the 1950 classic “Betty Crocker’s Cookbook”.  My mom has one of these that is probably closer to the original publication and she still uses it to this day.  I thought it would be fun to try out some of the recipes.  Care to join me?

Glazed Chicken Wings

Glazed Chicken Wings

3lbs Chicken Wings (I used drumsticks)

2/3 cups soy sauce

1/2 cup honey

2 T five spice powder

2 T vegetable oil

2 cloves garlic, crushed

1.  Cut each chicken wing at joints to make 3 pieces (I just used drumsticks so I didn’t do this step)

2.  Place chicken in a shallow glass dish

3.  Mix remaining ingredients

4.  Pour over chicken

5.  Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour

6.  Heat oven to 375

7.  Place chicken on rack in aluminum foil lined broiler pan and reserve marinade.

8.  Brush chicken with reserved marinade.

9.  Bake 30 minutes.

10.  Turn chicken and bake an additional 30 minutes, brushing occasionally with marinade until juices run clear.

I made mine in the oven as directed (sort of, I didn’t read the part about the foil lined pan.  Oops), but I think these would do great on the grill.  And it’s really a very easy recipe to make and you get a lot of flavor for a little work.  It just takes some time to get them cooked thoroughly.
