Simple Shrimp with Butter and Garlic

I’ve been trying to branch out from my normal chicken or steak dinners.  Mostly because I’ve had more than a few “Steak again??” comments from my lovely children.  I’ve tried some new pork recipes, but after serving shrimp cocktail at Easter and realizing my son LOVED it, I decided to try an easy shrimp dish.  Shrimp is great because it’s fish, but it’s not super fish-y, if you know what I mean.  People that don’t like fish, will sometimes still eat shrimp. This simple shrimp with butter and garlic recipe is pretty much the easiest thing I’ve ever made.  In fact, that sentence is kind of the recipe.  And it takes about ten minutes total from thawing the shrimp to putting them on your plate.  No exaggeration.

Simple Shrimp with Butter and Garlic

  • 20 Frozen, Peeled and Deveined Shrimp (I used the 31-40 size shrimp)
  • 5 tbsp Butter
  • 3 cloves Garlic (minced)
  • Salt & Pepper (to taste)
  1. Thaw the shrimp by placing them in a colander and running cold water over them.  This should only take a few minutes.

  2. Heat 2 tbsp of butter in a saute pan on medium heat.

  3. Add the garlic to the butter.

  4. Add the thawed shrimp to the butter and garlic and cook for two minutes on one side.

  5. Add the remainder of the butter and salt and pepper.

  6. Flip the shrimp and allow to cook for another 2 minutes on the other side or until cooked through.

I may have exaggerated when I said these take ten minutes; it’s probably more like 8 minutes.  They are really super quick and easy.  I love recipes like this where you just get a few simple flavors and you can really taste them.  These were a hit at my house and I even took a few to my parents house for my dad to test and they got his seal of approval, too.

These would be fantastic over pasta, just drizzle the leftover butter and garlic over the pasta, OR, I’m obsessed with Zatarains Creamy Parmesan Rice right now.  It’s so good.  Add some green beans and you’ve got yourself a meal, friend.  In fact, this is kind of a “company worthy” meal.  I might have to have a dang dinner party.

And not that it changes the flavor, but how pretty are those shrimp in that blue bowl?  That bowl is one of four which were a gift from my mom for Easter.  I love gifts like that. Something that I wouldn’t necessarily buy for myself, but they have added so much color to my kitchen!

Alright, go whip up some shrimp!  What are you going to serve them with??
